Community Movie Filming Delay (& Donald Glover’s Return) Get Hopeful Update From Joel McHale
The Community movie receives a positive update despite being delayed by the writers’ strike. After years of hopeful anticipation and viral memes, the Community movie was officially confirmed at Peacock last year. The original stars, including Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong, are all set to return. However, the project was put on hold indefinitely when Creator Dan Harmon was writing the script due to the Writers Guild of America strike.
Despite the delay caused by the writers’ strike, McHale has now provided a positive update on the Community movie. During a recent appearance on the Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa podcast, the Community star revealed that they plan to start shooting the movie next summer. McHale emphasized the importance of Donald Glover’s return, as his name was initially missing from the cast announcement. Here’s what he said:
We’re shooting it next summer. [Donald Glover’s] coming back, and that’s really important. Well, the fact that we even got Donald to do it… that was the big piece. But, I think everyone’s coming back. So far, we’re pretty good, and I think that will happen.
The last time McHale provided an update on the Community movie, he mentioned that it was indefinitely delayed by the writers’ strike. However, he expressed his optimism that filming could commence once the strike ended. While there has been no significant progress in resolving the strike, McHale now appears confident that they will begin shooting the Community movie next summer. Although this plan may be subject to change due to the ongoing strike, it is still exciting news for fans who have eagerly awaited the release of a Community movie for many years.

Despite being delayed by the writers’ strike, McHale now has a positive update for the Community movie. During a recent appearance on the Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa podcast, the Community star said they are going to shoot the movie next summer. McHale went on to stress the importance of Glover’s return, whose name was missing from the original announcement. Read what he said below:

The last time McHale offered an update on the Community movie, he said it was delayed indefinitely by the writers’ strike, but once it was over, they could finally start filming. While there hasn’t been much progress since then in ending the strike, McHale now seems fairly certain they will start shooting the Community movie next summer. With no clear end to the writers’ strike in sight, this is likely a tentative plan that isn’t set in stone, but the update is still a welcome one for those who have been eagerly awaiting a Community movie for years.
In his latest update, McHale also says that “everyone’s coming back.” This seems to suggest that Yvette Nicole Brown is returning as Shirley, even though her involvement hasn’t been confirmed elsewhere. McHale also touted Glover’s return in the Community movie, which the actor confirmed last month. Each member of the Community cast plays an integral role in the study group’s overall dynamics, so it’s imperative that each of them return for the movie.
