In Escape from Tarkov, fallen players leave behind dog tags that can be obtained as mementos during raids. These dog tags reveal the identity of the deceased player, their faction allegiance, and crucially, the details of their killer and the weapon used. The dog tags serve as a reminder of mortality and cannot be traded on the in-game market.

A Reddit user named MichaelKCF experienced a fatal encounter in Escape From Tarkov as a PMC. However, he later stumbled upon his own USEC dog tag while playing as a Scav and returning to the location of his demise. The player shared a video clip of this remarkable discovery, revealing that he was slain by another player named Cross using an NSV “Utyos” heavy machine gun. Although not the most powerful weapon in the game, it proved lethal enough to end MichaelKCF’s journey.

MichaelKCF revealed that he had been trying for years to retrieve his own dog tag, and this incredible find occurred after numerous attempts. Other players shared their own experiences of discovering their own dog tags, noting that it is easier to accomplish in servers with a lower player population. One player mentioned successfully recovering their gear and tags multiple times as a Scav in Escape From Tarkov following their demise. The player later clarified that these dog tags were found in South Africa, a region that starts with high population during early game wipes but quickly becomes deserted as the wipe progresses.

Another player highlighted the usefulness of the low-population strategy on maps like Interchange, which are known for their high difficulty. Meanwhile, some players expressed curiosity about MichaelKCF’s Scav loadout, to which he responded that he was experimenting with unconventional sets due to the late stage of the wipe, simply aiming to have some fun.

Escape From Tarkov is currently available in Early Access on PC.

In Escape from Tarkovdead players will have dog tags that can be acquired during raids as items that serve as a keepsake. Dog tags dropped by players will let whoever finds them know who the victim was, their time of death, which faction they fought for, and most importantly, who killed them and which weapon was used in the act. The dog tags are a memory of a player’s memento mori of sorts, as players will leave a keepsake that cannot be sold on the flea market.

Reddit user MichaelKCF was one of the unfortunate PMC casualties in Escape From Tarkov. However, he managed to find his own USEC dog tag as a Scav after traveling to the place where he was killed. The player posted a clip of his discovery and also inspected the dog tag to find out that he was killed by a player that goes by the name Cross with an NSV “Utyos” heavy machine gun. While this particular weapon isn’t as great as some of the best weapons in Escape From Tarkovit still packed enough of a punch to kill MichaelKCF.

MichaelKCF has stated that he has been trying “for years” to get his dog tag, and this off-chance occurrence happened after many tries. Some players relayed their own experiences finding their own dog tags, with some pointing out that this is much easier to do in servers with a low player population. One player pointed out that they managed to recover their own gear and tags many times as a Scav in Escape From Tarkov after their death. The player clarified later that the region in which the dog tags were found was South Africa, a region that is highly populated during early wipes but dries up quite quickly, with servers being downright empty during the mid to late wipe.

Another player also talked about how the low-population trick was useful on some of Escape From Tarkov‘s more threatening maps such as Interchange. Meanwhile, some other players were curious about the MichaelKCF’s Scav loadout, to which the poster replied that he was making Frankenstein sets as it was the end of a wipe so there wasn’t much to be done except having some fun.

Escape From Tarkov is currently in Early Access on PC.
