How To Get Glimmer Fast

Glimmer serves as the primary currency in Destiny 2 and is essential for various activities such as purchasing bounties, upgrading gear, adding mods to gear, and focusing engrams. Even experienced players who use powerful builds like the Sunbreaker Titan build, Nightstalker Hunter build, or Dawnblade Warlock build need to regularly acquire Glimmer to keep up with the increasing power level cap. Therefore, having an ample supply of Glimmer is a top priority for most players.

There are multiple ways to obtain Glimmer, including defeating enemies, opening chests, completing playlists, and dismantling unwanted equipment. To expedite Glimmer farming, you can visit Master Rahool or equip a Glimmer boosting mod on your Ghost. This guide will provide a detailed breakdown of each method and help you build up a substantial Glimmer supply.

Trading with Master Rahool is a viable option to acquire Glimmer. Master Rahool, an NPC located at the Tower on Earth, allows you to trade Planetary Materials, Legendary Shards, and other currencies for Glimmer. The Planetary Materials that Rahool accepts for trade change daily, so it’s important to check regularly. The standard exchange rate is 10 Planetary Materials for 10,000 Glimmer. However, some Planetary Materials have a slightly lower exchange rate of 10 Planetary Materials for 5,000 Glimmer. This method is effective as it provides value for materials that would otherwise be unused.

Dismantling unwanted equipment is another way to obtain Glimmer. By dismantling equipment, you can earn Gunsmith XP, Legendary Shards (excluding Blues), and Glimmer. Although the Glimmer gained from dismantling is modest (ranging from 100 to 300 per item), it is a low-effort method that helps prevent inventory overflow. To dismantle gear, hover over the item in your inventory and click the dismantle button. It’s advisable to lock items you wish to keep to avoid accidental dismantling.

Completing Heroic Public Events is a lucrative method for earning Glimmer. Public Events are visible on the map before they begin, allowing you to prepare and replenish resources. By completing hidden objectives during these events, you can trigger Heroic versions that reward 10,000 Glimmer per event. However, familiarizing yourself with the hidden objectives for each event type is crucial to maximize your earnings. Currently, there are 13 different Public Events with Heroic Objectives, each offering significant Glimmer rewards upon completion.

Equipping a Glimmer boosting mod on your Ghost is highly recommended when participating in playlists or farming events. This ensures a continuous acquisition of Glimmer throughout your gameplay. Glimmer mods vary in effectiveness, with the Prodigious Glimmer Booster being the most powerful, increasing Glimmer drop rate by 35%. Additionally, using the Rainmaker consumable alongside other farming methods can trigger a shower of Glimmer for four hours, particularly when achieving close-range precision kills. However, bear in mind that the Rainmaker consumable is a Legendary item and should be used judiciously.

While killing enemies may initially seem like a straightforward method to farm Glimmer, there is a hidden limitation. Destiny 2 imposes a soft cap on Glimmer farming from enemies, where you will stop receiving Glimmer after earning 400 Glimmer. To resume earning Glimmer, you must take a break of at least 20 seconds. After this break, you can earn an additional 200 Glimmer before it stops dropping again. Although longer breaks allow you to reach the 400 Glimmer cap again, it is a meager amount and inconvenient. Therefore, utilizing playlists and missions with a Glimmer boosting mod installed is a more efficient method of farming Glimmer through gameplay.

It is important to be mindful of the Glimmer cap while farming. The maximum amount of Glimmer you can carry at a time is 250,000. Any Glimmer earned beyond this point will be lost, and you will be unable to redeem certain items such as House Banners, Silken Codices, Axiomatic Beads, Network Keys, or Royal Amethyst. Therefore, it is advisable to manage your Glimmer and avoid reaching the cap.

In conclusion, by employing various methods such as trading with Master Rahool, dismantling unwanted equipment, completing Heroic Public Events, using Glimmer boosting mods, and being aware of the Glimmer cap, you can effectively accumulate a substantial supply of Glimmer in Destiny 2.

Glimmer is the main currency of Destiny 2. Glimmer is required for everything, including purchasing bounties, upgrading gear, adding mods to gear, and focusing engrams. Even veteran players running powerful builds such as the Sunbreaker Titan build, Nightstalker Hunter build, or Dawnblade Warlock build will need to frequently use Glimmer to keep up with the rising power level cap. As a result, having enough Glimmer is a top priority for most players.

There are many ways to get Glimmer, including: killing enemies, opening chests, completing playlists, and dismantling unwanted equipment. You can speed up Glimmer farming by paying Master Rahool a visit or using a Glimmer boosting mod on your Ghost. This guide will detail each of these methods below and break down your best way to build up a good supply.

Trading With Master Rahool

A screenshot of Master Rahool in the game Destiny 2

Master Rahool is an NPC at the Tower on Earth. Since the relocation of Spider, Master Rahool has allowed you to trade Planetary Materials (as well as Legendary Shards and other currencies) for Glimmer. The type of Planetary Materials Rahool is willing to trade for will change at the reset time each day, so be sure to check back often.

Exchange Rate

Rahool’s usual exchange rate from materials to Glimmer is pretty nice: 10 Planetary Materials will net you 10,000 Glimmer. Some Planetary Materials have been basically decomissioned, so the exchange rate for this is slightly less good (10 Planetary Materials to get 5,000 Glimmer), but it’s still an effective method nonetheless. You aren’t doing anything else with the materials, right? There is no cap on the number of times you can make this trade.

Dismantling Unwanted Equipment

If you have a surplus of equipment you don’t want, you can dismantle it to get Gunsmith XP, Legendary Shards (Blues don’t count), and Glimmer. The Glimmer from dismantling is modest (100 to 300 per item), but most players need to dismantle things constantly to avoid inventory overflow anyway, and it is low effort.

How To Dismantle Gear

  1. In your inventory, hover over the gear you wish to dismantle.
  2. A button prompt to dismantle will appear just under the stats display.
  3. Click this button to dismantle the gear (the button used depends on the system, but it is square on PlayStation).

To avoid dismantling items you’d like to keep by mistake, you can lock them. The button to do this will appear in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen when examining the item.

Completing Heroic Public Events

Public Heroic Events are one of the most lucrative ways to earn Glimmer. Public Events are visible on the map before they begin, allowing you to arrive early and refill your resources. The default event has good leveling rewards, but completing a hidden objective will cause them to turn Heroic.

These Heroic Public Event completions are worth 10,000 Glimmer for each event. However, in order to take advantage of this method, you’ll need to know the hidden objectives for each event type. There are currently 13 different Public Events with Heroic Objectives.

All Public Events With Heroic Objectives

While the first line of each entry is a secret objective, the second becomes visible once the first is complete. Complete both to get the Heroic rewards, including that sweet Glimmer.

Using A Glimmer Boosting Mod

Destiny 2 Ghost Modding Screen

If you’re going to be running playlists or farming events, it is never a bad idea to have a Glimmer boosting mod installed on your Ghost. You will always be getting some Glimmer while playing the game.

Glimmer mods range in effectiveness. The Meager Glimmer Booster only increases Glimmer acquisition by 5%, while the Prodigious Glimmer Booster (the best available outside the Season Pass) will boost your Glimmer drop rate by 35%.

The Rainmaker Consumable

This is a good add-on to other farming methods, as close-range precision kills will trigger a shower of Glimmer for four hours. However, keep in mind that this is a Legendary consumable, and it should be used wisely.

Killing Enemies Is Generally Inefficient

A player character from Destiny 2 fighting a large enemy

Killing enemies would seem like the straightforward way to farm Glimmer — Lost Sectors like Veles Labyrinth certainly has plenty of them. However, there’s a hidden problem with farming Glimmer this way.

Destiny 2 has a soft cap on Glimmer farming from enemies. After you gain 400 Glimmer from killing enemies, you will stop receiving Glimmer. In order to start receiving Glimmer again, you need to take a break of at least 20 seconds. After these 20 seconds, you can earn 200 Glimmer more before it stops dropping again.

Taking longer breaks will result in going back up to the 400 cap, but this is a laughably small amount of Glimmer and is a hassle. If you’d like to farm Glimmer by playing rather than trading, then playlists and missions with your Glimmer boosting mod installed are simply better.

Avoid The Glimmer Cap

While farming Glimmer, it is useful to keep the Glimmer cap in mind. The current amount you can carry at a time is 250,000 Glimmer. After this point, any Glimmer you would earn will simply disappearand you can no longer redeem House Banners, Silken Codices, Axiomatic Beads, Network Keys, or Royal Amethyst.
