Only Up: How to Roll

Rolling may not appear to be a vital skill in climbing, but Only Up demonstrates that a well-executed roll can be a lifesaver and a game-changer. In the viral simulation developed by SC-KR Games, the protagonist possesses four primary abilities: sprinting, crouching, jumping, and rolling. Among these, rolling holds particular significance as it enables speedrunners to successfully navigate challenging jumps, cancel falling animations, and exploit glitches. This comprehensive guide aims to instruct novice Only Up players on the art of rolling and provide valuable tips on utilizing this maneuver to skip obstacles.

To initiate a roll in Only Up, simply press the Ctrl key twice. This action can be performed both on the ground and in mid-air by double-tapping the Control button on your keyboard. However, executing a roll in Slow-Motion mode enhances maneuverability, granting players extra control over their character’s movements. Rolling serves as a crucial gameplay mechanic in Only Up, enabling players to swiftly recover from falls or land gracefully. Some players also exploit rolling to their advantage, utilizing glitches to gain an edge and complete the game more rapidly.

To crouch, press the Ctrl button once. This action can prove helpful in various situations, allowing players to navigate tight spaces or avoid obstacles with ease.

Now, let’s delve into the Edge Roll Glitch technique. When near the edge of a structure, press Ctrl twice to initiate a roll and simultaneously spam the jump button. When executed correctly, the edge roll glitch propels the character into the air, enabling players to bypass a significant portion of the obstacles. The key to a successful edge roll is timing the jump just before the character begins to descend. This creates a spring-like effect, propelling the character higher for up to 30 seconds, provided there are no obstacles obstructing the ascent. It’s advisable to employ this glitch on the ground floor, where the risks are minimal. Additionally, it’s crucial to ensure the path is clear before attempting this maneuver.

For a more pronounced jump effect, adjust all graphic settings to low while increasing the game’s frame rate to 120. Higher frame rates increase the likelihood of successfully executing a rolling glitch. It’s worth noting that future updates for Only Up might address and rectify the edge or barrel roll glitch.

If you prefer using a controller, it’s important to note that the current version of Only Up does not support controller functionality. Players are limited to utilizing keyboard commands to navigate the game. Only Up is currently available exclusively for PC via Steam.

Rolling is an essential gameplay element in Only Up, as it lets players cancel falling animations or land quickly. Some players also use rolls to exploit glitches to beat the game faster.

How to Use the Edge Roll Glitch

Near the edge of a structure, press Ctrl twice to roll and spam the jump button. When done correctly, the edge roll glitch shoots the boy in the air, allowing players to skip most of the obstacles.

The key to landing a successful edge roll is jumping just before the boy falls. This will create a jumping pad effect that can last up to 30 seconds—as long as there are no obstacles along the way.

Players are advised to use this glitch on the ground floor, where the risk is negligible. It’s also a good idea to ensure nothing’s blocking the path before utilizing the glitch.

For a higher jump effect, adjust all graphic settings to low but increase the game’s frame rate to 120. (When the frame rate is high, the chances of doing a rolling glitch are greater.)

The upcoming Only Up patches might fix the edge or barrel roll glitch.

How to Roll Using a Controller
