Instead of stunning spectators with his graceful drop shots, powerful forehands, and fierce backhands at the All England Club this year, Roger Federer surprised everyone by taking the stage with the British band Coldplay in Zurich, Switzerland, on July 3.
The retired 20-time grand slam champion joined Coldplay’s lead vocalist Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bass guitarist Guy Berryman, and drummer Will Champion for a live performance.
In a video shared by Coldplay on Instagram, Chris Martin humorously introduced the 41-year-old former tennis player as an “original band member” who left the group to become the greatest tennis player of all time.
The band then started playing “Don’t Panic” from their album “Parachutes,” with Federer joining in by playing the shaker. At one point during the performance, Martin asked the rest of the band to stop playing and encouraged Federer to continue his shaker solo, which thrilled the crowd.
“Is there anything this man can’t do? Thank you for joining us, @rogerfederer 🩵💫,” Coldplay captioned the video on Instagram.
Federer also shared photos and a short video clip of his shaker solo on Twitter, describing the experience as the “adventure of a lifetime.” He also posted pictures with his wife, Mirka, and the band members backstage.
As the considered greatest tennis player of all time, Federer’s appearance at the Coldplay concert delighted his fans, especially during the ongoing Wimbledon 2023 tournament at the All England Club in London. Federer holds the record for winning the prestigious tennis tournament a record eight times.

He introduced the Tennis maestro as “an original band member who left the band and became the greatest Tennis player of all time”.
The band then launched into Don’t Panic from their album Parachutes with Federer playing the shaker. At one point during the song, Martin asked the rest of the band to go quiet and urged Federer to continue with his shaker solo, making the crowd go crazy with excitement.
