Netflix announces the additional new cast for Squid Game season 2, and it finally includes some female players after the online backlash from its initial update. Earlier this month, the streaming giant hosted their annual virtual fan convention called Tudum and lays out what the public can expect from its programming in the foreseeable future. That was when Netflix first announced the initial cast for Squid Game season 2. Now, however, the platform adds more names to the growing ensemble for the show.
Per TVLineNetflix has named Park Gyu-Young, Jo Yu-Ri, Kang Ae-Sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-Uk, Choi Seung-Hyun, Roh Jae-Won, Won Ji-An as additional players for Squid Game season 2. That being said, the report claims that production for Squid Game season 2 is supposed to start later this year.
What To Expect From Squid Game Season 2
Squid Game season 1 finale effectively sets up what could be its sequel’s story. After Seong Gi-Hun finally comes to terms with his experience and how he got his money, he is supposed to fly to America and forget the traumatic events of partaking in Squid Game. At the very last minute, however, he changes his mind and decides to seek revenge against those who operate the deadly competition by taking it down.
Aside from Gi-Hun’s personal arc, Squid Game season 2 will also likely tackle the complicated narrative of the Hwang brothers. Netflix has already confirmed that Jun-Ho survives Front Man’s shooting, which means that he can be the key to finding out what really happened to his older brother. He may also be how Gi-Hun is able to achieve his goal of exposing those who run Squid Game.
How those separate arcs tie in with the next iteration of Squid Game is uncertain, however. While Netflix gives the impression that all these new cast members will be players, there’s a possibility that some of them are adjacent characters to those who are actually participating. Of course, aside from the actual storylines, fans are also looking forward to a new set of games in Squid Game season 2.
