Diablo 4 Players Have Great Idea for More Endgame Content

Diablo 4 Players Have Great Idea for More Endgame Content

Many players have expressed their disappointment with the endgame in Diablo 4 as it lacks variety compared to its predecessor. However, there is a way to add more content at minimal development cost through Strongholds. Despite being a record-breaking title that has gained critical and popular success, Diablo 4 has received a continuous stream of feedback from players and streamers that highlights the game’s flaws. While the game has a solid foundation, a fun campaign, and an excellent customization system, its various features often feel disconnected, and the quality-of-life features are lacking.

The complaints and criticisms start to arise as players approach the endgame in Diablo 4, which currently consists of Helltides and Nightmare Dungeons. Players often run the same instances with punishing affixes repeatedly, which pales in comparison to the Greater Rifts of Diablo 3. Furthermore, the itemization in Diablo 4 is unimaginative and rigid, with the truly fun Uniques locked behind a very small drop chance, and then further gated by an unspoken requirement to roll perfect stats.

These issues often discourage players from enjoying the final stages of the game and the grind that follows. However, according to thedavv, the concept of Strongholds can be improved to make them repeatable and alleviate some of the tedium. Since Helltides tend to cover a town in any of the five Regions in Diablo 4, repeatable Strongholds could function similarly in the higher World Tiers, allowing players to band together, clear out a demon-infested town, and reap the rewards. A more dynamic version of Strongholds would allow developers to randomize the location, enemies, affixes, objectives, and even boss fights. While it may sound similar to a Nightmare Dungeon on paper, having more content variety at the level cap would be appreciated by the community. Ultimately, Blizzard needs to find a way to introduce new content that is appealing to chase, as there is no true benefit to tackling higher level Nightmare Dungeons, nor does the added difficulty provide a satisfying challenge.

Another feature that could enrich the endgame is to make Diablo 4‘s campaign bosses repeatable and connect them to a reward system similar to Bounties in Diablo 3‘s Adventure Mode. Fans have expressed frustration that Blizzard did not draw upon the useful feedback from the last two mainline Diablo titles, especially with the recent release of Diablo 2: Resurrected. It feels like Diablo 4 is still in the process of figuring itself out. Though players are confident that the developers will fix the game’s shortcomings, even the most patient and passionate fans have a limit.

Diablo 4 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Many players find the endgame in Diablo 4 to be barren compared to its predecessor, but there may be a way to provide more variety at little development cost through Strongholds. Though certainly a fun title that keeps breaking records, the critical and popular success of Diablo 4 is interlaced with a nearly inexhaustible stream of feedback from players and streamers alike. The foundation is good, the campaign is fun, and customization has never been better in a Diablo game, but its systems often feel at odds with one another, and the quality-of-life features in Diablo 4 are severely lacking.
